The aim of the project is to create and support a cross-border network of civil protection volunteers and competent authorities, which will form the basis of an innovative framework for the management of natural risks and especially forest fires.

\nThe scope is to strengthen cross-border preparedness by mitigating the devastating effects of forest fires, as well as by strengthening the resilience of cross border communities.

\nThe civil protection network that will be created will provide training and equipment to its members in order to play a critical role in the protection of the natural and human environment in the cross-border area and in particular in areas of high socio-economic importance that are vulnerable to forest fires. The project will also engage the public through information and awareness events.

\nThe VOLUnteer project aims to create an operational network that will support a common framework for managing wildfire impacts in the cross-border region.

\nThis network is expected to positively affect the levels of safety and well-being of the societies in this area as well as the protection of the natural and man-made environment.<\/div>\n\t \t <\/div>\n\t \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

There are currently no common procedures to regulate related problems. The VOLUnteer project comes to fill this gap and ensure operational capability through the introduction of a comprehensive joint training program that includes common training modules and guides, joint training, and innovative operational technology tools.

\nThe knowledge and experience that will be gathered from the implementation of the specific project is of great importance for strengthening the joint capacity to manage the risk of wildfires as well as for the harmonization or development of common operational procedures.

\nThe VOLUnteer project capitalizes on results and experience of previous European projects in order to define more effective ways of protecting the cross border area from the consequences of natural disasters such as wildfires. In particular, the added value of the VOLUnteer project stems from the fact that the project is based on good practices as it is designed to utilize the results of other successfully completed cross-border projects, such as eOUTLAND (Interreg Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020).
