A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE PROJECT

The INTERREG IPA Cross-Border Cooperation program "Greece-Republic of North Macedonia 2014-2020" offers ample opportunities for cooperation, good neighborly relations and socio-economic development in the two countries.
The cross-border region of Greece – North Macedonia, an area presenting significant socio-economic activities, has suffered a significant number of catastrophic events over the last 20 years, entailing serious human, natural and economic losses.
The estimates of scientifically documented climate projections indicate that the intensity and impact of disaster-causing phenomena are expected to increase in the near future, which intensifies the need to strengthen the prevention of, readiness for, response and resilience to such phenomena.
The need for a timely and effective response, through the creation of an operational cross border network of volunteers and civil protection bodies to manage natural disasters in the cross-border area, structured on the basis of an integrated programme comprising common training modules and guides as well as innovative operational technology tools, led to the creation and implementation of VOLUnteer.
